Social Commentary

I was extremely distressed by the brutality of the genocide in Bosnia, especially the rape of young women. I appropriated Picasso's outrage at the bombing of the town of Guernica in 1936 to express my own outrage. I also found a rich lode in Jasper Johns that suited my aesthetic needs. I continue to work with these images in my paintings and drawings about the violence perpetrated against women.
